This research discusses the application of Bali's traditional houses in urban environments, specifically in the Navy Housing area of Semolowaru Bahari, Surabaya, and how this can maintain emotional functions while enhancing the psychological well-being of its inhabitants through design approaches. In a non-agricultural society, there has been a significant change in the use of space, such as the elimination of the functions of granaries and animal pens, as well as adjustments to the positions of traditional elements such as Bale Sakepat. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with an analysis that combines spatial and psychological aspects based on architectural psychology theory. The findings show that the spatial arrangement, choice of materials, and orientation of the building retain strong emotional meanings, capable of creating a sense of security, strengthening relationships among family members, and providing sensory comfort that contributes to emotional stability and personal identity. The adaptation of this traditional architectural design proves to still be relevant and functions well without diminishing its psychological and cultural values, so traditional Balinese houses remain meaningful spaces that are harmonious with modern lifestyles.References
