Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on students’ learning activities and learning outcomes in the Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) subject for second-grade students at SD Negeri 103516 Beranti. The study was motivated by the low level of student engagement and achievement, as indicated by the average pretest score of 57.00 and limited participation during lessons. A quasi-experimental design with a One Group Pretest–Posttest model was employed, involving 18 students as research participants. The instruments used were an IPAS learning achievement test and a learning activity observation sheet. The PjBL implementation consisted of four sessions covering project planning, investigation, product development, and result presentation. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and normalized gain (n-gain) calculation. The findings revealed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with an average posttest score of 73.56 and an n-gain score of 0.416 (moderate category). Student learning activities also increased, with an average score of 73.2, reflecting improvements in participation, cooperation, responsibility, communication, and independence. These results indicate that the PjBL model effectively enhances both learning activities and learning outcomes in lower-grade elementary students and is highly relevant for supporting the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka.
