Pembatasan dalam Pemanfaatan Air Hasil Daur Ulang IPAL pada Universitas

Suatu bangunan memerlukan air setiap hari untuk memenuhi kebutuhan penghuninya. Di tengah masalah kekurangan air, salah satu solusi yang ada adalah pemanfaatan air yang didaur ulang oleh instalasi pengolahan air limbah (IPAL). Artikel ini mempelajari seberapa optimal air olahan IPAL dapat digunakan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan air sehari-hari pada suatu universitas. Penelitian dilakukan di suatu universitas di DKI Jakarta, Indonesia. Data yang dipakai adalah ketersediaan air dari IPAL dan kebutuhan air total dari PDAM. Data kebutuhan air dipecah berdasarkan tipe penggunaan yaitu untuk penghuni (toilet dan non-toilet), penyiraman tanaman, kebersihan bangunan, dan kolam. Hasil penyelidikan memperkirakan, bila air daur ulang IPAL akan dimanfaatkan, hanya 28,20 % yang bisa dipakai sedangkanya sisa 71,80 % harus dibuang. Ini tidak ideal karena sebaiknya air daur ulang mampu dimanfaatkan semaksimal mungkin untuk mengurangi pemakaian sumber daya air yang makin terbatas. Ada berbagai faktor penyebab yaitu persepsi publik yang buruk mengenai air daur ulang IPAL, mutu air yang tidak memenuhi persyaratan, dan jaringan pipa eksisting yang mencampur sistem pembilasan toilet dengan air bersih lainnya.References
